WINTER ROAD RESIDENTS

Posted 9/22/22

The installation of temporary lines will begin Thursday, Sept. 22. You will experience water outages during the next few days as the process continues. First: temporary pipes are put down. They are then sanitized, tested for contamination, and when tests show clean lines, the next step is to hook each home to the temporary line. It is at this time your water will be turned off. Thank you for you understanding and patience throughout the process.

Water quality update from incident on 8/31/22

Posted 9/2/22

On August 31, 2022 members of the ELVD Board of Commissioners received various communications from residents in the areas of Ellenbrook, Seminole, Deerpoint Drive, Greenfield drive and Winter Road of their water supply presenting with a yellow color, an odor and a metallic taste. Our water operators were notified immediately and asked to respond to investigate the issue. While on their way to the District, the Board issued some communications via our website and official FB page suggesting residents to not drink the water while we investigated what type of contaminant could possibly be present in the water.

Prior to this date, on August 30, 2022, one of the districts wells that had recently experienced a pump failure and had its well pump replaced. This well pump was located at the Mary Rowe well site. The team worked all day to replace the pump and to work on getting the well back in service to provide water to the system. Information about what was done prior to placing the well back in service was that the well pump line was chlorinated and flushed as part of the process. Based on feedback there were no signs of any issues at that time prior to placing the well in service. Over night the pump was able to pump over 7,000 gallons of water in support of the districts water main. At some time overnight, the sediment/ contamination that was disturbed in the well/ casing from the well pump replacement was introduced into the system.

Prior to Aquamen arriving on site the power to the pump was shutoff at the Mary Row well site until it was investigated further. Once Aquamen arrived on site they isolated the well from the rest of the district supply. Testing of the water supply from the well testing point showed no further chlorination in the line, PH was about 7.6 and a low hardness was present. The well line was flushed for some additional time and then Aquamen went to the roads that had reported concerns with their water. Some additional flushing and sampling was performed in those areas as well. Values for iron presented with a low value of .3 (not sure of the measurement type value)? Chlorine was slightly up with a value of .6 to .7.

Aquamen advised that the yellow appearance in the water was the escape of Iron in the water. They advised that this appearance would subside with more movement in the lines, egular use, and flushing of the lines. They advised if a single location/ residence still showed signs of the discoloration, then running the cold water in the tub for a short period of time would aid in flushing those lines.

Aquamen advised the water was safe to drink and this issue should resolve itself with a short period of time and the normal water flow.

The board has asked Aquamen to continue to monitor the water quality levels by performing some added tests outside of the standard timeline. If any values are found not to be acceptable, the board will communicate further with residents through our normal media forums, such as our Website and our Official FB page.

The Board wishes to thank all the residents for their patience and to those specifically that reported the water quality concerns so quickly. It aided at improving the response time for this situation.

ELVD Board of Commissioner Chairman

WATER SYSTEM UPDATE 8-31-22 @ 1:03 p.m.

Posted 8/31/22

It has been determined that the problems with the water that occurred this morning were a result of the recent replacement of the pump at the Mary Rowe Well.

The water will clear itself soon. The Mary Rowe Well pump’s replacement will ease the need for trucked in water as that pump has not been operating properly for a while.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
